Posted: (1 days ago) Regarding the piston notches; I'd always been taught the notches were meant for CAST pistons, and the notches always faced the FRONT of the engine. 4 notched one way, 4 the other in the box, but once installed in the engine, they all face the same way, to the front.

Posted: (1 days ago) Hard to find better heads for a 283 than the good ol' Power Pack heads. Some might say to run 305 heads instead, but the vintage look of the old-style 520 castings along with the small high-velocity ports and 1.72"/1.50" valve sizes will do that 283 right.

Posted: (1 days ago) The DOHC 16V Volvo B234 was in '89-'90 740 in US and '91 940 in Canada. It goes on with a little welding. Just weld up the center oil drain hole at top and weld the outside edge of the oval holes on either side as they get too close to the gasket edge, cut off and weld up the water pump bypass elbow on the front and weld a 1"x1"x5.5" block of aluminum on the rear where the head is shorter.

Posted: (2 days ago) If you want plug&play, go to a rebuilder like Bubba and get a ford '42-48 type rebuilt and set, either with points or electronic conversion. The Mallory (remember the Ford distributo was designed by Mallory...the current Chinese Mallory's were not) is NOT plug and play unless you like poor prformance and 500 mile tuneup intervals...it is simply a core needing new plastic, non-Mallory sourced ...
